Notes for Nerds Day 5

Total = 510km. 34 hours. Ave =15 km/h. Max speed 67 km/h. Bike problems = none. Scariest bit = cycling at 67 km/h down some hill in Shropshire. Best bits Tintern Abbey in the mist - completing Thursday's ride & meeting up with Valerie & Llanberis Pass on the final morning.
Route planned using Google Maps. (Choose - directions, walking. Google does not have footpaths, takes you mostly along B roads. Route needs checking though.) Print maps for use on bike. Used Google mobile on my phone's GPS when not sure of route. Very good but you have to stop and get your phone out.
Best B&B Snead Farm - 5 stars.
Worst Upper Sedbury House - Rubbish.
What would I change next time? Print larger scale maps & not stay at Upper Sedbury House.
Did I say how wonderful it was cycling over Llanberis pass?
17 km today.

Can we climb Snowdon tomorrow?

Cherry on the Cake

Last cycling part of this Journey. One of the best rides I've ever done, over Llanberis pass.

The Other End

Feeling a bit guilty about the rear end pic. So many of you actually thought it was me! So, here's his other end.

Day 4

Difficult morning. By 11 o'clock, had done 30k but no energy left. A huge hill loomed up ahead. I stopped for a coffee & a cheese roll & thought I might as well give the long climb a go. Half way up, I felt fine! Now how does that work? Any neuro-scientists, doctors, chemists, software engineers, nurses, vets or cyclo-therapists following this blog can you please supply an answer? Reunited with lovely Valerie tonight at Capel Curig. I'll cycle Llanberis Pass tomorrow morning. Val & I will attempt the final assault on Mount Snowdon on Sunday. 115k today.

King of mountains

60min hill climb, lovely jubbly! Now for that rotten downhill bit.

Day Three

Wonderful ride today. Seemed like it was only 25 years ago I did it.
No pics as I decide to be strict with my self and keep 14kmph average. Couldn't resist Tinter in the mist though. My old friend is a suspicious sort and reckons my bike looks to clean to have cycled all this way. So to prove its genuin I'm gonna post a pic of my bum tomorrow; that'll teach her.
127km today. Tommorrow around 115 but Valerie's driving up meaning that I quit she can rescue me.

Mark's Pumpkins

Should get along a bit quicker tomorrow having delivered Mark's Pumpkins to Chipping Sodbury today.

Day 2

k82km today - great ride through crazily named places. Missing out on bright lights of Chepstow tonight, want to get away as early as possible tomorrow - big ride.

Nice bridge!

This bridge is getting old- & a bit wobbly. 6km to go.

Good news!

Get those mops out of the corner, bring 'm down here & show 'm a good time. (Unfortunately, owing to health 'n safety unaccompanied buckets are not allowed.

Fancy a game?

Caen locks

22 or 16 locks (depending which notice) All in a lovely row.

Day 1

Arrived Devizes. Over Salisbury Plain some very polite soldiers said the road was closed. I asked if it was closed, 'even to OHPs on bikes?' Meant to say 'OAPs' but the sight of their machine guns and tank had made me nervous. Cycled back to A360, adding 12km to journey. Do you think squaddies know what an OHP is?
72km today.

Stonehenge

Stonehenge

Britain's very first communications tower.

Off he goes - nearly.

Shaved me chain and oiled me legs; leave at 2pm for Devizes.I'm all of a flutter!

1984 Graham cycles to Snowdon

In 1984 Graham cycled from the primary school where he taught in West Moors, Dorset, to Snowdon, North Wales, in three days. 25 years later, can he do it again?
